Currently, I have two fashion rules:
1.) Raid boyfriend’s closet.
2.) Continue childhood goal of becoming a rock star.
At 8 years old, I wanted to be Jerry Lee Lewis. At 11, Michael Jackson. Then, for some terrible, terrible reason, Elton John dictated my prepubescent years (thirteen is the year I learned want “dyke” means). In my late teens, it was the era of David Byrne, which has continued to shine brightly for the past twelve years. Occasionally I’ll fall in love with another (Warren Zevon, for example) and most recently, I’m fixated on The Replacements (where are the woman?!)
Um, how excited are you that The Replacements are semi-reuniting this year? I would make the trek to Chicago/Denver/Toronto to see them if I didn’t think they would mostly argue onstage.
I was a wee one when The Replacements had their heyday, so I’m kind of late to the game. These past few years have been an awakening in 80s alt-rock and luckily for me, Geoff has a plethora of enviable concert tees of all genres from his teen days (Huey Lewis,The Stray Cats, Siouxsie Sioux, The Ramones, the list goes on). Unluckily for Geoff, I sneak these tees out of his closet when he’s not looking. Over-sized concert tees never really look sexy- unless they’re ripped to smithereens– but it’s more about representin’, right?
This tee is from The Replacements’ ’89 concert tour of Don’t Tell a Sell. Geoff said the concert he went to had a small turnout and they were booed for their bad behavior.
Rock n’ roll 4ever!
Though I’m lapping up every The Replacements album with fervor, my current jam is Alex Chilton from Pleased to Meet Me.
Start your day off right:

From the College of Musical Knowledge. You got swag.
Hahaha. Thanks, Galen!
Damn good choice. The Mats did some great shows back in the day, usually alternating with drunken trainwrecks. You never knew quite which version of the band was going to show up.
Aw, fuck I loved the Mats. I saw them around 10 times between the I WILL DARE era thru the demise of the band in ’91. Ditto to Iain’s comment above–you could get the most transformative rock show of your life on Tuesday, a Bud-fueled garage rehearsal the next. I got to meet Paul a few years back on a solo show that rivaled the good ole days (he stopped mid-song to pee in the ladies room, poured his beer on the front row, then plowed through a cover of Patridge Family’s “I Think I Love You” that was positively inspirational) and ripped a piece of tape off his monitor as a souvenir. It reads “NOT HAPPENING.”
hello, long time mats fan here. i finally got to see’em at Bumbershoot in August!! I was on cloud 9!
just turned thirty (yikes!) and have been hooked since i discovered them in middle school.
any chance i could buy this off you? the limited selected of Mats band Ts i’ve purchased over the years have been dissapointing and there were none left at Bumbershoot to purchase.
